Definition
Enterprise AI is the use of artificial intelligence inside an organization under the constraints that separate enterprises from consumers: shared accountability, regulatory exposure, existing systems of record, data residency requirements, and the expectation that any output can be explained and audited. Its defining difficulty is not model capability but organizational context.
Warum es wichtig ist
Enterprise AI pilots rarely fail because the model is not clever enough. They fail because the model does not know the organization: its history, its constraints, its commitments and the reasoning behind its decisions. Capability is bought from a model provider and improves every few months. Context is specific to one organization, has to be accumulated over time, and is exactly what nobody has built infrastructure for. That gap is the difference between an impressive demonstration and a system anyone trusts with real work.
Woher es kommt
A market category rather than a technical one. The Human Layer series argues that it is incomplete as usually drawn, because it names the models and the applications but omits the layer between them: the memory the organization owns.
